The New Hydra is a SWEET Model
Once in awhile I get excited over a new GW model. There were the Harlequins (sweet), Shadowsword (oyez), Manticore (awesome), the Crimson Hunter (beautiful), among others. And then there's this - the awesome new Imperial Guard Hydra.
This quick update had to be done after I got done assembling it and doing some basecoats. As usual, it assembles really well. And an amazing surprise came when I was putting together the gun barrels. It's simply brilliant! One of those things that make grown men do rapid-firing autocannon sounds with their lips. Pity the rules for the tank got a bit downgraded (I noticed this pattern - awesome models, with not so awesome rules - like that awesome new Commissar, which are now often replaced by Priests ... o well).
Anyways, I'm painting this up in standard Brandenberger colors. I had to go out and get a new box of stowage bits - both for this flak tank, and for the rest of my tank company. I'll be going back to the panzers for some much-needed refurbishement and repairs. After more than 13 years of action, there's quite a lot to be done - tank markings, new set of tank numbering (they will be transferred to 2nd Company from the current 4th), stowage for some of the tanks that don't have enough, a couple of new tank commanders, replacements of smoke launchers on tanks that have lost them, paint touch ups, guitar wire antenna, etc.
I'll put up the completed Hydra when it's done. Hopefully next week!
In the meantime, keep them dice rolling!

Pew pew pew ... oops wait ... those are the wrong sounds of Storm Troopers shooting at the rebellion scum. Dakadakadaka ... oops wrong again, those are ork guns. What sounds do the guns make? ;)
ReplyDeleteI think the best way to do is to say "tooth, tooth, tooth" while pursing your lips and not moving them
DeleteHeh heh you are right ... much like those old world war II footages of sailors manning the anti-air guns of US warships as they desperately try to gun down a suicidal zero figther.
Deleteyes, there's a lot of that kind of thing in 40k too!
DeleteAye I agree, I do love that new kit
ReplyDeleteHahaha.. Always enjoy reading your post.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The Hydra is almost done. But I don't think it will be ready this week because I don't have any more hobby time at HF thus week. I must finish this next Monday because I need to get my Throwdown entries done
